Hello,

I would like to thank everyone for thier kind words and their understanding in regards to my previous post.  My Grandfather, while not completly well yet, is on the mend and may come home within a month. :)  As you could tell, with everything that has been happening, my ability to update Deviantart was unfortunatley hampered. (It was sort of like having a mile high brick wall dropped in my path)  Fortuantely, with judicious use of jack-hammers, keyblades, and lightsabers, I was able to break through said wall.  I have crawled from the dark shadowy depths of the curmbling road block and emerged victorious.

Anyway, I will now be back on DA almost perpetually.

As to the Otakon orders, I will update with a full list of what has been completed and what is currently being worked on.

Thank you all again for your understanding,

Rowalnd Cooney

Update

3 min read
Hey everyone,

First I want to thank everyone who stopped by my table at Otakon.  Glad to know so many people liked new the sculptures :)

Also, on a more serious note, I will be unable to update deviantart at least until Monday of the coming week.  My grandfather, who lives with us, has been admitted to the hospital after collapsing on his way to his chair.  He has at least four different infections and he went into some form of sepsis.  He has been in the hospital for a while now and I have been back and forth visiting him and my grandmother.

Anyway, he is now sitting up in his bed and they just took him off morphine some should be on the mend...

Sorry for this but I will be resuming usual deviantart activity soon.

Thank you all for your understanding,

Rowland Cooney

Tics and me

Since last post I have acquired twenty children.  Nope, I haven't started an orphanage and they're not all mine (by the way, if they  were they'd all have names like Black Arachnia  and Starscream)  This of course means my classes have started! Stop-motion animation, Advanced stop-motion animation, Japanese Art, Duct Tape Art, and Lego Architecture!  My eye has already developed a twitch and only the first has begun!
Hmm, a manic habit already?
Well, I do have a lot more opportunities to stop children from using my digital cameras to flash themselves in the eyes in my life....but I still really love teaching. Yes, sometimes I end up slack-jawed and marveling at their magical ability to come to me bleeding from the dangerous activity of working on a computer, and somehow they use submission holds only the most highly trained wrestler should be able to pull off because someone slighted their Lego creations coolness...but I have that same reaction just as many times at how creative and mature they can be...
So, it must be the sculpting. Damn it, I love that, too. So, I will continue to fit in five sculptures a day, and here's a picture of today's work in progress....

Katniss

Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games in her fire gown. This one's been fun: get to sculpt fire, use red clay, and have an excuse to save far more pictures of Jennifer Lawrence than I will ever need.
Also, Rapunzel from Tangled, after falling asleep at a party...

Rapunzel

That hair's going to be something else to sculpt. Can't wait though.

That epic-sounding, ellipsis-ended sentence tempted me into using it as a title..so I have no choice but to pepper the actual story of my new sculpture collection with much more epicness than it actually had!

So it all began as I was playing around with Tardis blue clay, pondering sculpting the 10th doctor for The Lord of all Darkness and Icky Things who is a devoted Doctor Who fan. Even though it was for her, and she could easily have my head replaced with a cantaloupe...I couldn't get into it. I wanted to do something different. So in between battling the wayward zombies who erupt from my kitchen sink every Monday, I began to sculpt this....

Doctor

And the Lord really liked it, and so did I. (and a zombie even was polite enough to remark on him before he reached for my cranium.) After making a boatload more, I realize how much that one sucks, but I really enjoy making the new ones. They can be put together relatively quickly, hyper amounts of detail are not required, and (I hope) still show the characters personality. They are intended to be necklaces or just small figures, and also have the ability to transmute diapers into gold.
Yesterday I finally figured out how to take pictures of my miniatures that don't look shadowy, shiny in odd spots, or like the characters are being lifted to heaven by an ethereal light. Took four bloody hours, but finally the right settings were achieved...

Photo

All I've needed all these years was a stack of books, watercolor paper, a hole punched into a light box with a chain dangling from it, two lamps burning sides of the box, and an invisible six foot, three and a half inches tall rabbit called Harvey, to take competent photos!
Which means they can finally be put on DeviantArt, and be listed in their very own (as of yet empty and blank) etsy store: CirqueduClay.etsy.com

Before they go in there however, they will be available for purchase at this years Otakon in Baltimore, where I have somehow managed to obtain an Artist Alley table, defying all my previous luck in lottery/raffle-like anything.

Thanks for reading!
